Arsenal secured its first Premier League victory at Anfield in 14 years on Sunday.

Kai Havertz scored the only goal in the 16th minute to seal a 1-0 win over Liverpool. The result places the Gunners three points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the table. Before this match, Arsenal had lost eight of their last 13 league games. They had also managed just one clean sheet in their previous 27 league visits to the stadium.

Liverpool applied heavy pressure after falling behind but failed to find the net. The Reds finished the game without registering a shot on target. That marks the first time in Premier League history that Liverpool has missed the target in a home match. Mikel Arteta described the performance as historic. He noted that the players loved the mission of finally overcoming the psychological and quality hurdles that had prevented success for over a decade. Arteta said the team had to navigate periods of suffering against Liverpool's vertical attacks. He emphasized that enjoying the challenge was necessary to avoid being punished by the home side's chaos moments.

The win came four days after Arsenal was eliminated from the Carabao Cup by League Two side Fleetwood Town. Arteta acknowledged that the midweek defeat felt like the end of the world to the squad. He stated that the players had to pick themselves up to understand that the sport can take them to bad places quickly. The manager said the team responded with a defiant display. This victory extends their Premier League record to eight wins and one loss from nine games this season.

Arsenal will look to maintain their position at the top of the table in upcoming fixtures. The team has now extended their lead over their closest rivals following this decisive performance at Anfield.
