Sarah Snook will lead a limited series adaptation of The Birds on HBO. The project draws from both the 1963 Alfred Hitchcock film and the original Daphne du Maurier novella.

The story centers on Myra Massey, a character played by Snook. According to the official description, Myra flees a bitter custody battle to return home with her young daughter. She secretly investigates the suspicious disappearance of a childhood friend. A killer is on the loose, and Myra faces mounting personal threats while trying to protect her child from vicious bird attacks linked to the crime.

The production brings together several key HBO figures. Snook recently gained prominence for her role as Shiv Roy in Succession. Tom Spezialy is writing the pilot and serving as an executive producer. He previously executive produced Watchmen and The Leftovers for the network. David Heyman, who currently executive produces the Harry Potter series on HBO, is also attached as an executive producer.

Universal Global Television acts as a co-studio on the project. This division of Universal Studio Group partners with HBO for the series. Universal Pictures, the sibling movie studio, produced the original 1963 film. The studio holds the rights to the project along with the du Maurier estate.

ABC Audio confirmed the news on Tuesday, October 28, 2026. The series is currently in pilot development. No release date has been announced yet.
