Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss is a finalist for the National League Manager of the Year award, MLB Network announced Monday. The honor recognizes Weiss for leading the team to a 94-win season and its first National League East title since 2023.
Weiss was promoted from bench coach to manager after Brian Snitker retired following a 76-win season in which the Braves missed the postseason for the first time since 2017. Under Weiss, the team earned the No. 3 seed in the postseason. Atlanta defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in the Wild Card Series before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in the Division Series.
Weiss is competing against two other managers. Don Mattingly of the Philadelphia Phillies and Pat Murphy of the Milwaukee Brewers are the other finalists. Murphy is seeking his third consecutive Manager of the Year award.
The Baseball Writers’ Association of America will announce the winner on Nov. 10. Braves pitcher Chris Sale is also a finalist for the NL Cy Young Award. Sale will learn if he has won his second Cy Young on Nov. 11.
Other finalists for NL awards include Pete Crow-Armstrong, Shohei Ohtani, and Brice Turang for MVP. Jacob Misiorowski and Cristopher Sánchez are the other Cy Young finalists. Carson Benge, Sal Stewart, and JJ Wetherholt are up for Rookie of the Year.
