A vehicle fired shots outside Fitzys Loganholme on Bryants Road at 8:15 pm on Friday, wounding four people before the Logan City Titles Fight Night was scheduled to begin. Queensland police responded to the licensed premises after receiving reports of gunfire from a moving car. Officers said the vehicle was observed leaving the scene. The four injured individuals were transported to a hospital, where medical staff were assessing their conditions.
Deputy Commander Chris Stream described the scene as "confronting" during an interview on the Today show. He confirmed that a number of people suffered gunshot wounds. Logan Mayor Jon Raven stated that residents in the area were frightened by the incident. Raven told the program, "This has sent a shockwave through Logan. We've never seen something like this in Logan before."
Raven noted that the event had previously been a family friendly environment with many children present. He said, "This will impact them for the rest of their lives." The mayor explained that the night was organized to help steer children away from violence. He described the organizer as someone who uses boxing to empower and reconnect young people who might be going off the rails. Raven added, "This is the opposite of what he'll want to see."
The Logan City Titles posted a statement on social media on Sunday morning. The group said, "We are heartbroken about the incident that occurred at the fight night." The organizers characterized the event as a community showcase for local talent and hard work inside the ring. The statement continued, "These types of incidents have no place in the boxing community or any part of the broader community."
Police have not yet identified the offenders, who remain at large. The department said it did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public. Officers urged anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and contact them.
