For fans watching from the stands at American Airlines Center, the difference between a loss and a win came down to a single defensive stop. Jason Robertson blocked a scoring chance for Winnipeg, and Miro Heiskanen immediately turned that recovery into an attack. Heiskanen sent Roope Hintz in alone, and Hintz scored at 3:47 of overtime to give Dallas a 3-2 victory.

The game reached extra time because of a late surge by the visitors. Gabriel Vilardi and Kyle Connor scored in the second period to put Winnipeg ahead. Dallas stayed behind until Hintz netted a six-on-five goal with two minutes remaining in regulation. That goal tied the score and forced the overtime period.

The defensive workload fell heavily on two players. Esa Lindell was scratched for the game, which shifted the burden to Heiskanen and Thomas Harley. Heiskanen played 29 minutes and 20 seconds, while Harley logged 28 minutes and 27 seconds. The next Dallas defenseman, Lian Bichsel, played only 17 minutes and 47 seconds.

The shot count favored the home team by a wide margin. The Stars outshot Winnipeg 38-19, but goaltender Connor Skinner made 35 saves. Those saves kept the game close despite the volume of shots Dallas generated. The defense limited Winnipeg's chances, but the team needed a late equalizer to stay in the game.

The sequence that ended the game was a shared effort. Robertson initially turned the puck over, creating a Winnipeg chance. He then blocked that attempt. Heiskanen took the loose puck and made the outlet pass. Hintz finished the play. The assist was credited to Heiskanen, who also recorded five shots and one block for the night.

The team has not announced a return date for Lindell or a permanent change in its defensive pairing. The heavy minutes for Heiskanen and Harley represent a one-night adjustment to the roster. The game ended with a specific play that converted a defensive stop into a goal, securing the win for Dallas.
