Jay-Z will headline the Super Bowl halftime show on February 14 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation announced the decision on Monday night.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated he asked Jay-Z to take the stage whenever the moment felt right. Jay-Z responded in a statement that this performance concludes a thirty-year journey from his debut album to the world's biggest stage.
Roc Nation has partnered with the NFL since 2019 to produce the league's entertainment presentations. At the start of that deal, Jay-Z told Goodell to end the conversation if it was about him performing. Seven years later, he has agreed to lead the show himself.
The announcement follows a recent tour celebrating the thirtieth anniversary of his 1996 album 'Reasonable Doubt.' That tour included sold-out shows in New York, London, and Paris, ending with a weekend at SoFi Stadium.
Born Shawn Carter, Jay-Z has won 25 Grammy Awards and received 89 nominations. He is the second-most nominated artist in history, behind his wife Beyonce. His catalog includes hit songs like 'Empire State of Mind' and '99 Problems.'
His recent concerts featured a rotating cast of guests. At SoFi Stadium, his daughter Blue Ivy played piano while artists like Scarface, John Legend, and DJ Khaled joined him. Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and Too $hort appeared during the final night. Earlier in the run, Beyonce, Rihanna, Eminem, and Nas performed with him at Yankee Stadium.
Roc Nation will executive produce the halftime show, with Hamish Hamilton directing. The event has won Emmys in recent years. Bad Bunny's performance last February won a record seven awards, while Kendrick Lamar's show won for music direction.
