OnePlus ships ColorOS 17 to 15 and Pad 4 in India a week early

Stable Android 17 updates are now live in India.

OnePlus began rolling out ColorOS 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 on Thursday. This release occurs one week ahead of the company’s original schedule. The software update signals the permanent end of OxygenOS, the customized interface OnePlus used for global markets.

OxygenOS started as a lightweight modification of stock Android. Over time, it became a version of Oppo’s ColorOS tailored for international users. The company announced the phase-out of OxygenOS after scaling back most of its global operations. Existing devices were slated to transition to ColorOS, a process that has now begun.

The rollout targets India first. The software had been available in beta for several months before the stable release. OnePlus stated that ColorOS 17 brings "a new wave of smarter experiences" and "smoother interactions." The company framed the update around the concept of "Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere." The goal is to reduce friction as users move between tasks, devices, and applications. The system aims to turn user ideas into finished work using artificial intelligence.

The timing deviates from the planned timeline. OnePlus originally set the first updates for October 29. The stable rollout began roughly seven days early. This initial wave is limited to two devices: the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4.

Other hardware is confirmed for the update. The next wave is scheduled for October 30 and will include the OnePlus 13. Previous generation flagships and various Nord models are also on the list. The company has not confirmed specific dates for regions outside India beyond the October 30 follow-up.

The software shift follows a period of operational changes for the brand. The OnePlus 15 and other models sold out in the United States after the company shut down most global operations. OnePlus has also introduced the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery.
