Samsung is set to release the Galaxy W27 in China on October 29, according to a leak from Ice Universe. The date marks the end of the manufacturer's new foldable hardware cycle for 2026. The device will join a limited regional lineup that has become a yearly tradition for the company in the Chinese market.

The leaked image shows a device with a glossy blue back and gold accents surrounding the triple camera array. The specifications and design match the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Samsung's top-tier model for this year. This choice distinguishes the W27 from previous years, where the W series typically mirrored the standard Z Fold rather than the Ultra variant.

The W series has historically served as a rebranded, specially styled version of Samsung's flagship foldable for China. These models often feature elaborate packaging and unique finishes. However, the 2024 cycle presented an exception. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition received a wider release, acting as a precursor to the major design shift seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The release of the W27 occurs while the market shifts toward wide-format foldables. Competitors like Xiaomi and Huawei have successfully promoted this form factor in China. Analysts project a 44% increase in foldable display shipments in 2026, driven largely by these wider devices. Samsung has noted that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is performing well, with the recent arrival of the iPhone Duo drawing further attention to the category.

If the leaked schedule holds, the Galaxy W27 will be the final new foldable from Samsung for the current year. The company has several new models planned for next year, but no further hardware is expected before the end of 2026. The W27 continues the pattern of offering a distinct, premium option exclusively for Chinese consumers.

The device will launch with Android 17, consistent with recent updates to other Galaxy devices. The choice to base the W27 on the Ultra model suggests Samsung is prioritizing its high-end hardware in the region. This move aligns with the growing popularity of wide foldables among Chinese buyers.

The October 29 launch date is six days away. The device will compete directly with other wide-format foldables from local manufacturers. Samsung's strategy for the W series remains focused on regional differentiation rather than a global push for this specific hardware iteration.
