President Donald Trump will deliver a final address to voters at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool in Washington on Monday afternoon. The White House confirmed the event hours after the president hinted at the location during a visit to Iowa.
The speech is framed as a closing argument ahead of the midterm elections. Insiders say the event will also feature a showcase of recent renovation projects in the capital, specifically the reopening of the pool area.
Trump spoke to reporters while deplaning from Air Force One on Sunday. He stated he chose the site to "show how beautiful it is." The president initially suggested the event might occur the next day but did not provide a specific time until the formal announcement.
This appearance marks a shift from the president’s recent campaign strategy. Over the past month, Trump held more than 25 rallies, primarily in conservative areas. Those stops were an effort to counter low approval ratings and polling that suggested Democrats would gain ground on election night.
Polls indicate that concerns over the Iran conflict, high energy prices, and rising costs of living are driving voter sentiment. The Lincoln Memorial speech serves as one of the few remaining opportunities for the president to pitch his administration to prospective voters before ballots are cast.
