A 38-year-old man is currently at large in London after forcing his way out of a medical facility in the city's south-east. The Metropolitan Police have launched a major manhunt for Anthony Lloyd, who escaped shortly after 4 pm on Friday. Officials describe the situation as urgent, noting that Lloyd presents a danger to both himself and the general public.

Lloyd was last seen at approximately 4:10 pm on Friday. Witnesses reported seeing him heading toward the Catford area before he disappeared from view. Police are treating the incident as a significant event and are conducting a wide-ranging search to locate him and return him to custody.

The prisoner had been moved to the Lewisham health unit in September. He was originally sentenced in 2025 for actual bodily harm. That conviction stemmed from an incident in Nottinghamshire where three emergency services workers were involved. He received a 12-month custodial sentence and served time in prison before his transfer to the medical facility.

Detective Superintendent Melanie Pressley is leading the investigation. She explained that officers are carrying out various substantial inquiries to track Lloyd's movements. Pressley emphasized the concern over his safety and the safety of others, urging members of the public to act quickly if they spot him. Her instruction is clear: call 999 immediately and do not approach the man.

Police have provided a detailed physical description of Lloyd to help the public identify him. He is a white male, standing about 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build. He has short dark hair. At the time of his escape, he was wearing a grey-blue T-shirt, black tracksuit bottoms, and white trainers. These specific clothing items are key identifiers for anyone searching for him.

The search is not limited to London alone. Officers believe Lloyd could be anywhere in the capital, but they are also monitoring areas where he has known connections. These locations include Surrey, Sussex, Thames Valley, Hampshire, Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, and Merseyside. This wider geographical focus reflects the links Lloyd has established in these regions over time.

The police appeal to the public for assistance in locating him. Pressley asked anyone with information, no matter how small, to contact the force as a matter of urgency. She stressed that even minor details could help narrow down the search area and speed up the process of finding the escaped prisoner.

For those who have seen Lloyd or have relevant details, the police have issued a specific reference number to quote when calling. The reference is CAD4739/23Oct. This helps dispatchers route the call to the correct team handling the manhunt. The force remains on high alert as they continue to sweep through the identified areas.

The escape has raised questions about security at the medical facility, though no formal statement on internal protocols was included in the initial release. The focus for now is on locating Lloyd safely. Given his history and the risk assessment, police are treating every potential sighting with high priority to ensure a swift resolution.
