A user known as Kian discovered a hidden interactive element on Apple Music’s website today, marking the 25th anniversary of the original iPod’s debut. The feature appears on the site’s error page, replacing the standard notification for missing content with a fully functional replica of the 2001 device.

Visitors can access the page by entering the URL music.apple.com/ipod or typing any non-existent path into the browser address bar. The interface mimics the hardware exactly, allowing users to click the on-screen buttons to navigate a playlist. The scroll wheel responds to mouse drag inputs, replicating the physical turning motion of the original player.

The virtual iPod contains tracks by artists who were popular in 2001. Selecting a song plays a 90-second preview directly within the web browser. This requires no separate application or software download. The design choices reflect the aesthetic of the first-generation model.

Apple introduced the physical music player on October 23, 2001. The company has not released a dedicated hardware player in years. The web-based tribute serves as a commemorative feature for the milestone date. There is no indication that the company plans to release a new physical device alongside this digital homage.

The interactive page functions as a lighthearted nod to the product’s history. Apple Music remains available for streaming at a cost of $11.99 per month. The service is also included in the Apple One bundle for subscribers.
