Apple will begin distributing iOS 27.2 to users next week. This release follows iOS 27.1, which was limited to the iPhone Duo, making 27.2 the next broad update for the wider device lineup.
The most notable change is the extension of Dual Capture to Group FaceTime calls. Introduced in iOS 27, Dual Capture allows compatible iPhones to display front and rear camera feeds simultaneously. In the previous version, the feature was restricted to one-on-one video calls. Users tap a Flip button to activate the rear camera while keeping the front camera active. With the 27.2 update, this capability becomes available in group conversations.
The Apple Podcasts app receives a structural overhaul to the Up Next queue. The current single list is being divided into two distinct sections. The first, New Episodes, replaces Up Next and aggregates the latest releases from shows users follow. The second, Continue Playing, appears directly below and centralizes all partially listened shows. A 9to5Mac writer who tested the beta described the old layout as cluttered and called the new split a major improvement for tracking listening habits.
Viewer profiles are arriving in the Apple TV app on iPhone for the first time. While profiles have long existed on tvOS, they have not previously been available in the iOS version. Upon opening the app after the update, users will encounter a profile selection screen. This prompt can be disabled if users prefer not to use the feature.
When profiles are active, the app tailors content recommendations to the selected viewer. If a child's profile is selected, the app restricts displayed series and movies to age-appropriate titles from Apple. This setup is designed to keep adult viewing queues separate and prevent children from encountering unsuitable material on a parent's device.
According to 9to5Mac, the update includes new features across six iPhone applications in total. The rollout is scheduled for the coming week.
