Apple TV subscribers in the United States gained access to Dolby Atmos audio for Formula 1 coverage on Friday, October 23. The feature launched in time for the United States Grand Prix, which is the first race in the sport's history to be broadcast with spatial sound. Apple and Dolby Laboratories announced the partnership earlier this month to upgrade the audio experience for the event.

The company stated that the new audio mix is designed to place viewers at the center of race weekend activities. It captures specific sounds such as team radio communications, commentator voices, and engine noise. The system also tracks the sounds of on-track competition and pit lane operations. Apple noted that combining this audio with Dolby Vision visuals creates a more immersive viewing experience for fans.

The United States Grand Prix schedule includes several remaining sessions for subscribers to watch. Practice 2 is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 5 p.m. ET. Practice 3 will take place on Saturday, October 24, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Qualifying follows on the same day at 5 p.m. ET. The main race event is set for Sunday, October 25, at 4 p.m. ET.

Apple is hosting a live screening of the Sunday race at its Domain NORTHSIDE store in Austin, Texas. The venue previously hosted the launch of the iPhone Duo on Friday. Apple CEO John Ternus and retail chief Deirdre O'Brien attended that event. The store serves as a hub for the brand in the city where the race is held.

Apple also updated Apple Maps to support fans attending the event in person. The company expanded its Detailed City Experience to include Austin. This update features a detailed map of the Circuit of The Americas. The map displays turn numbers, grandstand locations, and 3D landmarks to assist with navigation around the venue.

The service is available for $14.99 per month or as part of the Apple One bundle. Apple TV also streams original titles such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
