A 23-year-old man from Givatayim was arrested on Saturday night in Tel Aviv after allegedly shoving a security guard assigned to former prime minister and B'Yachad party chairman Naftali Bennett. The incident occurred while Bennett was attending a rally focused on the establishment of a commission of inquiry into the failures that preceded the October 7 massacre.
According to reports, the man was under the influence of alcohol and attempted to bypass the security detail surrounding the politician. While trying to breach the perimeter, he reportedly shouted the phrase “Only Bibi” at Bennett and his staff, a slogan supporting Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Sources stated that the suspect attempted to push through the security line despite instructions from the guards to keep his distance from Bennett.
Following the initial confrontation, one of the guards pushed the man back, but the individual did not comply with the security team's instructions. Instead, the situation escalated when he confronted the guard and shoved him in return. The security detail then subdued the suspect and held him at the scene while summoning police officers.
Police arrived at the park, apprehended the suspect, and transported him to the station for questioning. An initial investigation revealed that the man has no prior criminal record. Authorities are currently examining the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine further legal action.
Bennett, who served as prime minister from June 2021 to June 2022, was present at the event to support calls for an inquiry regarding the October 7 massacre. The confrontation comes as a reminder of the heightened tensions surrounding political discourse in the country.
The arrest takes place just days before the 2026 Knesset elections. Voting for IDF soldiers at military polling stations has already commenced earlier this week, signaling the start of the official voting period for the general election.
