Following the commercial success of its film adaptation, Lionsgate has confirmed the schedule for a theatrical version of Freida McFadden's novel The Housemaid.
The stage play will make its world premiere at the Richmond Theatre in London on September 14, 2027. The production is scheduled to tour across the United Kingdom for ten months, concluding its run on April 29, 2028. Lionsgate has not yet announced plans to bring the show to North American stages.
Bekah Brunstetter, a Tony Award nominee, is writing the script. Matthew Dunster, an Olivier Award nominee, will direct the production. The announcement arrives twelve months after the movie adaptation starring Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney opened in theaters in December 2025. That film's box office performance led Lionsgate to greenlight a sequel based on McFadden's follow-up book, The Housemaid's Secret. That film is set to premiere on December 17, 2027.
Jenefer Brown, president of Global Products & Experiences at Lionsgate, stated in a press release that the franchise momentum continues to grow. She noted that the stage play debuting next year aligns with the sequel film currently in production.
The story centers on Millie, a convicted felon who works as a housemaid for Nina Winchester. As Millie navigates the household dynamics, she discovers that both Nina and her husband Andrew are not who they appear to be. These discoveries lead to chaos and murder.
The next major milestone for the franchise is the stage play opening in London in September 2027, followed by the theatrical release of the sequel film in December of that same year.
