Lionsgate announced the first tour dates for the stage adaptation of Freida McFadden's novel 'The Housemaid' on Sunday. The production marks the first theatrical staging of the psychological thriller.
Bekah Brunstetter, a Tony Award nominee, will write the play. Matthew Dunster, an Olivier Award nominee, is set to direct. The world premiere is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2027, at the Richmond Theatre in London.
The run will tour the United Kingdom and conclude on April 29, 2028. Lionsgate has not yet determined if the production will extend to the United States.
This announcement follows the December 2025 release of the film adaptation, which starred Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney. Following the film's box office performance, Lionsgate greenlit a sequel based on McFadden's book 'The Housemaid's Secret.' That sequel is currently in production and will open in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.
Jenefer Brown, Lionsgate's president of Global Products & Experiences, stated in a press release that the franchise momentum continues to grow with the stage play debuting and the sequel film in production.
The story centers on Millie, a convicted felon who works as a housemaid for Nina Winchester. Millie falls in love with Nina's husband, Andrew, before discovering discrepancies in their identities. The plot leads to chaos and murder.
