Colin Simmons, the SEC leader in sacks this season, is listed as questionable for Texas' Saturday game against Mississippi State. The defensive lineman missed the Longhorns' 34-27 victory over Ole Miss on Saturday due to a sprained right ankle. The injury report released Wednesday indicates he may return to the lineup for the upcoming contest.
Simmons' potential return bolsters a defense that has been dealing with absences. He was the only starter from the Ole Miss game marked as questionable in Wednesday's availability report. His status remains a key factor for Texas' pass rush as it prepares for the next opponent.
The injury report also provided updates on three offensive position players. Running back Hollywood Smothers is listed as probable after missing the Ole Miss game with a shoulder injury. Wide receivers Kaliq Lockett and Cam Coleman are also probable. Lockett sat out the previous game, while Coleman exited the contest in the third quarter with a shoulder injury.
One key player remains out for Saturday's game. Left tackle Trevor Goosby is ruled out following a left-knee injury. He was carried off the field during the first quarter of the win over Ole Miss and did not rejoin the game.
Texas aims to secure a second consecutive win in conference play following two weeks of non-conference games. The matchup against Mississippi State is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. CT at Royal-Memorial Stadium on Saturday.
