Detroit Lions fans will see a new helmet and jersey combination when their team hosts the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, November 1. The Jacksonville Jaguars will simultaneously debut their own distinct look at home against the Indianapolis Colts. Both games are scheduled for a 1 p.m. ET kickoff, marking the first time these two franchises wear their special Rivalries uniforms.
The Lions outfit features a white jersey and white pants paired with a Honolulu blue helmet. Nike collaborated with the team to create a design themed around defending the den. The helmet includes decals with a carbon fiber texture. The Lions stated that this texture symbolizes elite performance and connects the uniform to Detroit's car and racing culture.
The Jaguars are introducing a teal helmet for the first time in franchise history. This helmet replaces the traditional black design. The back bumper of the helmet displays the word Duval, referring to the county where the city is located. The front of the helmet features the number 904, which is the area code for Jacksonville. The rest of the uniform consists of a white jersey and black pants.
The number font on the Jaguars uniform draws inspiration from historic music venues and the southern rock influence found in the region. The team described the typeface as heavily inspired by these local cultural elements. This design choice aims to reflect the specific identity of the Jacksonville area rather than just the team's traditional colors.
The Detroit and Jacksonville teams are not the first to wear these special uniforms in the 2026 season. The Indianapolis Colts wore theirs during a Week 3 victory over the Houston Texans. The Green Bay Packers debuted their look during a 31-7 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 5. Teams wearing their Rivalries uniforms have a combined record of 2-0 this season.
All four teams in the NFC North and AFC South divisions have unveiled new uniforms for this year. Only the home team wears the special kit during each matchup. The Lions will face the Vikings again in Week 15 on December 20. The Jaguars will travel to the Tennessee Titans in Week 10 on November 15. The program will expand to other divisions in 2027 and 2028, covering all 32 NFL teams by the end of that period.
Each team is permitted to wear the Rivalries uniform once during the regular season. They may keep the design in their rotation for the following three years. The AFC East and NFC West divisions introduced their uniforms in 2025. The current 2026 rollout covers the AFC South and NFC North. The remaining four divisions will receive their designs in the two years following this season.
