East Lansing Police are investigating two distinct shootings that occurred near Michigan State University on Halloween night, resulting in five injuries. Chief Jennifer Brown briefed reporters on Sunday afternoon regarding the incidents that unfolded in the area around the campus.

Brown stated that officers responded to four separate calls for service during the evening. The first shooting took place near the intersection of M.A.C. Avenue and Linden Street. Three people were transported to the hospital after being struck by bullets in that specific incident. Officials reported that two of those victims are in stable condition, while the status of the third was not immediately known.

A second shooting was reported later in the night near Stoddard and Frye Avenues. Two additional people were shot in that location. Both victims are currently listed as stable. Brown noted that multiple firearms were recovered from the second scene, but she could not confirm whether those were the weapons used in the shooting.

The police chief said several individuals were taken into custody in connection with the violence. She did not specify the number of suspects or their ages. Police have not yet determined if the two shootings are connected to each other.

It is currently unclear if any of the five victims are students at Michigan State University. A university spokesperson stated that the Department of Police and Public Safety assisted East Lansing Police Department. The spokesperson clarified that the criminal activity did not involve a direct threat to campus and did not take place on university property.

East Lansing Fire Department officials reported responding to 91 total incidents over a 24-hour period. This total included 75 incidents that occurred specifically on Halloween night.
